JazmineJazmine Jacobson was born in and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother Pam has been a previous vocalist for the backup band of Philadelphia International Records. As a child, her father was appointed as the city's Historic Strawberry Mansion curator. Their family eventually moved into this historical building. She graduated in 2005 of Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts where she was a vocal music major. Sullivan began her singing career as a contralto children's choirand just a couple of years later, in the adult group. Sullivan was not exposed to secular music. The singer recalls she was eleven when someone asked her to sing solos at the church. However, she was not enough yet to be ready. "Then the time came that McDonald's held a contest for students in big cities I had the opportunity to perform 'Accept What God Gives' on Showtime in the Apollo and the audience loved it". At the age 13 she sang with Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday celebration. Sullivan began her contract with Jive Records at the age fifteen. When she was 15, she was signed to Jive Records. She made an entire album there, but it wasn't made available for release. Sullivan was then dropped by the label. Missy Elliott was her producer for several tracks from Her debut album. Among them "Backstabbers", a buzz track written by Timbaland which was composed by Elliott.
